Highlights Town Signs in Negros Oriental
January 19, 2026
A new film by a Deaf signer showcases 25 town signs of Negros Oriental using Filipino Sign Language (FSL). The film highlights the unique signs that Deaf communities use to identify different towns, celebrating local culture and visual communication.
By presenting these 25 town signs, the film helps viewers understand how Deaf people navigate and connect with their surroundings through FSL. It also promotes awareness of Deaf culture and how place names are visually represented in daily life.
This Deaf-led project emphasizes the importance of visual information and local knowledge. It strengthens recognition of FSL, preserves cultural heritage, and celebrates the contributions of Deaf communities in Negros Oriental.
Highlighting FSL for Inclusive and Accessible Services
December 22, 2025
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) recently conducted a training session for members of the Provincial Council for Disability Affairs (PCDA) to strengthen inclusivity in public service. As part of this initiative, PSWDO invited a representative from our organization to share insights on Deaf culture and basic Filipino Sign Language (FSL), including fingerspelling, greetings, and commonly used signs.
In celebration of Deaf Awareness Week, this activity highlighted the importance of FSL in creating accessible and inclusive services, especially for vulnerable Deaf children and women. By equipping frontline agencies with essential communication skills, Negros Oriental takes a meaningful step toward building responsive and inclusive public service.
Unwavering Support for Typhoon Tino Survivors
November 11, 2025

We proudly recognize the Deaf Effata community for their unwavering support and are humbled by their generous donations. Our heartfelt thanks are extended to everyone who stepped forward to help the Deaf people of Canloan affected by Typhoon Tino.
At the request of PSWDO Head Hillton John Edrial, this initiative was carried out by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), with special appreciation for our colleague Jessie Susan Lo whose role as Deaf staff at PSWDO exemplifies true inclusion and stewardship.
Together, we’ve shown that they stand strong, not just in voice, but in action and heart. Let’s continue to uplift one another and be a beacon of support in times of need.
